GENERAL UTILITY INFORMATION

  • The Village of Tontogany purchases its Water and Electric from the City of Bowling Green and redistributes it to the citizens of Tontogany.
  • Sewer is supplied by Northwestern Water & Sewer District. Please Note: the Village bills for this service.
  • Gas is supplied by Suburban Natural Gas.
  • Landline phone service is provided by Frontier.
  • Cable TV, Internet, and Phone Service is provided by Time Warner Cable.
  • Vonage is phone-service option for our residents.

Customers who wish to have a paper copy should send a request to the Village of Tontogany, Utilities Department, PO Box 151, Tontogany, OH 43565.

Service Contract / Agreements

All customers will complete and sign a Water and/or Electric New Service Contract before service begins. All customers outside the Village of Tontogany limits will complete and sign an Annexation Agreement before water and/or electric service begins.

Water and Electric Taps

Inside the Corporation (including Harley Woods Subdivision)

Lawn Sprinkler Account

If an additional sprinkler account is desired, the tap fee is $250.
This fee will be adjusted as necessary as cost for parts increase.

Miscellaneous Tap Information

Any costs for additional poles, wire, or transformers needed to provide electrical service shall be passed along to the customer.

The owner on file of the properties along the new waterline who granted the easement for construction is exempt from the waterline development fees.

Water and Electric Rates

Utility Rates are set by Ordinance approved by the Village of Tontogany Council.

Effective Sept. 2007:

Demand accounts will have a ratchet clause in it. If the demand peaks higher than the figure currently used, this read will be used to re-calculate the demand charge and then be carried on for the next 11 months.

Account Fees- for Water & Electric Accounts:
  • A $25.00 "New Water" account fee or "New Electric" account fee (one or the other, not both) will be assessed when a new utility account is started with the Village of Tontogany. This is also referred to as a "New Customer Registration" fee. 
    This fee, if applicable, will be included on your first utility bill.
  • If a resident who has paid the account fee(s) moves within the Village of Tontogany service area, an additional new account fee will not be charged.
  • When a rental unit goes back into the sole name of the landlord, an account fee will not be charged.
Late Fees

A 10% late charge will be assessed on the unpaid balance of each month's billing after the due date.

Bad Check Fees:

When a check is returned, a $30 fee will be added to the account and the monies will be added back onto the account for payment.

General Information

Due Dates and Billing Information
  • Water meters are read and processed by the 6th of each month.
  • Bills are mailed to property owners and renters (in rental units).
  • Bills are due by the 20th of each month. If the 20th falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or Holiday the due date will be the next business day.
Payments
  • Payment can be left in the drop-box at the Town Hall, or
  • Mail the payment to the Village of Tontogany, Utilities Department, P.O. Box 151, Tontogany, OH 43565. 

    Checks or money orders should be made payable to: Village of Tontogany.

Certification
  • Quarterly, accounts will be checked for outstanding balances.
  • Accounts that are past due 90 days or more shall be sent certification notices. These notices shall be sent by certified mail to the property owner. A copy of the certification will also be sent by regular mail to the occupant of the property in the case of rental units.
    Customers will be given 10 days to pay the account in full. Once the due date has passed, accounts not paid in full will be subject to certification to the Wood County Auditor.
  • In the event the certification notice is returned unclaimed, the account will be certified with no further notification.
    The account balance will then be sent to the Wood County Auditor for placement on the tax duplicate.
  • In the event it is brought to the Clerk’s attention that a home is up for sale, sheriff’s sale, or bankruptcy and there is a balance on the account, the balance will be certified without further notice.

Lawn Sprinkler System
  • If a customer puts in a sprinkler system at the same time the main water meter is put in, there is only one $25 fee.
  • If the sprinkler system is added at a later date, the $25 fee will be added on the first bill after the system is up and running
  • Sprinkler system accounts are activated May 1 and inactivated November 1. No additional fees will be charged for these accounts. The minimum balance will stand during the activated months.
Water Leak Compensation
  • Upon determining there is a leak, water personnel will turn off the water and leave notification with customer (or on door if no-one is home).
  • The water will be turned on upon inspection of repair.
  • Figure bill adjustment: 
    Calculate what the bill would be based on normal usage (estimate if have to). Take the remainder and figure our cost (BG cost) + expenses.
  • Adjustments may be altered on a case by case basis as deemed necessary.
  • The Utilities Clerk will notify the customer in writing of the adjustment made.
